    Homeschool Days

Home school days allow individual home school students to attend preselected programs. Only students of the grade-equivalent age for the programs offered will be registered.

It's a Monarch

Thursday, September 20,2018
Time: 1:00-2:30
Grades K-6
Program # 673
Cost: $6
We will discover the world of insects and other arthropods. The program will include a brief overview of an insect's major body parts with children organizing plastic arthropods into categories. Our focus will turn to butterflies, looking through the dissecting scope to see the antenna, wings and legs. We will engage in a tasting activity to learn mimicry. We will view flowers under black light to understand how bees and butterflies "know" which flowers have plentiful nectar.

Registration deadline is September 13, 2018

Bats, Bats, Bats
Thursday, October 18, 2018
Time: 1:00-2:30
Grades K-6
Program # 674
Cost: $6
Bats, the only mammal that can truly fly, have many more adaptations, such as their:
-Fragile skeleton and compare it to a field mouse.
-Bat echo location, and "play" some games to better understand it.
      -Sense of smell.
-How, why, and where they hibernate.
-Much more about our nocturnal insectivore

Registration deadline is October 18, 2018

Soil, Rocks and Erosion
Thursday, November 15, 2018

Program # 675
Cost: $6
We will investigate what are the components of soil, and how each type of soil influences plant growth. We will take part in an investigation to learn better how erosion works. Plus we will look into several types of rocks and the minerals within them.
