Family Activities Family fun!

Lake Katherine is a beautiful, fun-filled place to enjoy some quality family time! Programs will be held at the Lake Katherine Nature Center. Reservations are required for all programs. Registration and payment must be made one week before the program by mail or in person at Lake Katherine. NO TELEPHONE REGISTRATIONS ARE ACCEPTED.

Available Programs:

Family Star Gazing
The Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens will be hosting family astronomy nights. The evening will feature guest astronomer, Joseph Mayer of the Chicago Astronomical Society. Programs will begin with an astronomy project for all ages followed by a brief talk on an astronomical subject. Outdoor viewing with telescopes to see various planets and the first phase of the moon.

September Hayride and Campfire
September is a time of harvest, we will stop by our Heritage Garden to see what is being harvested, take an evening hike in the eastern preserve as well as sing some campfire songs. We'll also enjoy eating some tasty harvest food cooked on the campfire.

October Hayride and Campfire
October is "pumpkin time" This hayride/campfire will feature pumpkin painting, pumpkin treats, and songs around the campfire.

Holiday Hayride
Our annual holiday hayride will feature the food, fun, and traditions from around the world. We'll ride on our decorated hay wagon through the streets of Palos Heights singing Christmas carols then return to the Nature Center and enjoy food, crafts, and other activities.

Wednesdays Go Wild at Lake Katherine
Drop in at anytime between 10:00am and 4:00pm and do a different nature-related project each week during the holiday break. Enjoy the nature center and spend a few minutes making a take-home project to remember your visit.
