Family Activities Family fun!

Lake Katherine is a beautiful, fun-filled place to enjoy some quality family time!  Programs will be held at the Lake Katherine Nature Center.  Reservations are required for all programs. Registration and payment must be made one week before the program by mail or in person at Lake Katherine.  NO TELEPHONE REGISTRATIONS ARE ACCEPTED. 
Space is limited. Early registration is recommended. For more information, contact our naturalists at 708-361-1873.

Available Programs:


Hayrides
Hayrides have come to Lake Katherine! Come on out for a picturesque 30 minute ride with our expert driver, Jack. Tours will commence in 30 minute intervals starting at 11:00 and ending at 1:30.
Cost: $1, children under 2 are free
Ages: all

Winter Means Snowshoeing and Skiing

Enjoy a trek through our winter wonderland. Use your own cross country skis or rent snowshoes which are available at the Nature Center.

When: Snow on the ground

Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, last rental at 3:45pm

Saturday, 10:00am-4:00pm, last rental at 2:45pm


Cost: $3.00/hour

One hour minimum

Age: All.

If you can walk you can snowshoe.


Holiday Hayride
Our annual holiday hayride will feature the food, fun, and traditions from the pioneers of North America. We'll ride on our decorated hay wagon through the streets of Palos Heights singing Christmas carols and then return to the Nature Center and enjoy food, crafts, and other activities.
Cost: $8.00 per person
Min/Max: 15/30

Wednesdays Go Wild at Lake Katherine
Drop in at anytime and do a different nature-related project each week during the holiday break. Enjoy the nature center and spend a few minutes making a take-home project to remember your visit.
Cost: Free
Ages: All
Wednesday, December 23: 10:00am-4:00pm
Wednesday, January 6: 10:00am-4:00pm
