Special Events


Natural Egg Dyeing
Wednesday, April 17, 3:45pm-4:45pm, $6 per person
Program: 670, Grade: K-5
Roots and beans, stalks and skins are used to make natural vegetable dyes. Join us as we concoct our colorful stew. This Easter celebrate using the eggs you colored with the dyes you learned to make.

Nature & Arts Festival
Saturday, April 27, 11:00am-3:00pm, Free
Lake Katherine and the Palos Heights Library join together to bring a celebration of nature and the arts to the community. There will be a story trail and nature based activities with art, writing and music and more for all ages. This event is free to the public and will be held at Lake Katherine.

Chicago River Day
Saturday, May 11, 9am to 1:30pm
Join the Friends of the Chicago River in a clean-up day at Lake Katherine. Volunteers will help remove invasive species and pick up trash around the park. Call Lake Katherine 708-361-1873 or email to reserve your lunch

Native Plant Sale
Saturday, May 11, 10am to 2pm
Join us for a Native Plant Sale fundraiser. We will have a variety of native wildflowers and grasses for sale.

Family Fishing Day
Saturday, June 1, 8am to 3pm, $25 full day, $15 half day
A day of fishing and fun for the whole family at Lake Katherine.  Prizes for the biggest catches.

Brews & Bullfrogs with Open Outcry
Wednesday, June 12, 6pm - 9pm. Cost: $5
Lake Katherine and Open Outcry Brewing Company have teamed up for an evening of fresh brews on the Clubhouse lawn.  Includes pub games & nature walks. Drinks are an additional charge.

July 3rd Bash
Wednesday, July 3rd 7pm-10pm, Cost: $25
Join us for the official Palos Heights' Independence Day celebrations. The firework display begins at dusk and there is free entry for all. Optional tickets available for $25 per person to reserve a spot on the Clubhouse balcony for the best view in the park. Includes drinks and light snacks.

Wine and Nature with Cooper’s Hawk Winery
Thursday, July 18, 6pm - 9pm. Cost: $30
Join us for our summer wine and nature event!  Cooper's Hawk Winery will be onsite for an evening of wine tasting and music. A Lake Katherine naturalist will also give short nature walks around the grounds. Entrance is limited to 100, sign up at the Nature Center ahead of time to secure your ticket.

All Things Folk
Wednesday, August 14, 6:30pm-8:30pm, Cost: $30
(Music starts at 7pm) Enjoy a night of folk music from local artist John Deven, plus short readings of nature-based folklore. Each ticket comes with two complimentary cocktails.  Entrance is limited to 100, sign up at the Nature Center ahead of time to secure your ticket.

Monarch Butterfly Festival
Sunday, September 15th 11am-4:30pm, Cost: $6
Enjoy the unique and magical experience of walking through our butterfly tent!  We will also have face-painting, live animals, an arts & crafts fair, children's crafts, story time, scarecrow making, food & drink vendors and an education tent.  Tickets are $6 per person and free entry for children two and under.

You must give us written notice if you or your family members do not want to be photographed or published. We also invite you to submit your own photos from programs, visits, and events. Your photo may be featured in an upcoming publication.
