Natural Navigation

Thursday, January 23
6:30 pm, FREE
Learn how you can use your local environment to orient and find your way.  Using stars, the direction trees bend, even which direction satellite dishes point, to help find your way in the world.  Lake Katherine's Manager Gareth Blakesley will lead a talk on navigation, and will show simple ways that you can use cues to figure out your location in the world.

Guided Night Time Snowshoe Walk

Wednesday, February 5
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, $6 per person.
Join us on a guided evening snow shoe hike around Lake Katherine.  This event will go ahead snow or no show, but will be cancelled due to extreme weather warnings. Hike will end with hot chocolate in the Nature Center.  Register at the Nature Center.

Stories from an Animal Control Officer

7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, $6 per person
Naturals Resources member and animal control officer, Melissa Drozd, will talk about critters she has encountered in her professional career and impart simple tips on how to deal will wildlife.  This program requires a minimum of 10 participants and will capped at 45.   Register at the Nature Center.

Winter Night Hike

Lake Katherine and Palos Heights Public Library present a winter night hike.  The one-mile hike around Lake Katherine will be led by Lake Katherine's Director & Chief Naturalist, Gareth Blakesley, who will point out the critters lurking in the twilight.  The hike will have a campfire and follow with hot chocolate.  Please dress for hiking and winter weather conditions.  Call 708.448.1473 to register or visit Palos Heights Library to register online.

Introduction to Nature Photography

Wednesday, March 18
7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, $6 per person
Jack Martin from the local Forester Photography Club will impart his expertise on nature photography.  As part of this class, Jack will guide us on how to choose settings, subject placement, and times of day.  He will also help us understand that the best camera you have, is the one you have on you.   Register at the Nature Center.

Stories from the Stars

Wednesday, March 25
7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, $6 per person
A presentation on the cultural significance of stars and constellations across cultures and through the ages. Cupcakes, coffee and hot chocolate will be served.  Register at the Nature Center.

Pre-registration is required at the Lake Katherine front desk. Designed for those 18 years and older.
